Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose your tarnish-resistant jewelry over real gold?
We love real gold too! But sometimes buying all the pieces that catch your eye can get a little pricey. Our goal at LuxeGoddess is affordable luxury, so we provide an alternative to expensive jewelry that will still last you just as long if cared for properly. All the style, without breaking the bank is how we like it!
Are your jewels tarnish proof?
Our stainless steel jewelry is tarnish proof, waterproof, sweatproof, and hypoallergenic. This is due to the reaction of chromium in stainless steel and oxygen, forming a protective layer. Stainless steel is perfect for those who are allergic to certain metals yet still want an alternative to silver and gold!
Our gold plated and 925 Sterling Silver pieces are tarnish-resistant and water-resistant. This means that although they can withstand daily wear such as washing hands and showering, make sure to take extra care in protecting your jewelry to prolong their life. For more care instructions, check out our jewelry care chart.
What is your jewelry made of?
Depending on the item, our jewelry is made of either stainless steel or 925 sterling silver with rhodium-plating, PVD gold plating, or E-coating. For specific information, please check the description of the item you are looking at.
What is Rhodium-Plating?
Rhodium is a durable, hypoallergenic, corrosion-resistant metal. Rhodium-Plating is a technique used where a thin layer of rhodium is applied to the surface of another metal. This is primarily done through electroplating, where an electrical current is used to deposit the rhodium onto the jewelry surface. This process shields against daily wear and tarnishing induced by frequent contact with moisture and chemicals. By creating a protective barrier over the underlying metal, it enhances durability and longevity. In addition, Rhodium-Plating acts as a barrier against scratches and abrasions, preserving the integrity of your jewelry piece for years to come.
What is PVD Gold Plating? How is it different than regular Gold Plating?
Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) gold plating is a method used to apply a thin layer of gold onto the surface of a metal object. PVD involves a physical process where gold is vaporized in a vacuum environment and then deposited onto the underlying metal. Unlike regular Gold Plating, PVD coatings feature enhanced durability, and increased resistance to wear, tarnish, and corrosion. Regular Gold Plating may wear off over time, especially with frequent wear and exposure to elements. It is important to note that while PVD is very corrosion-resistant, the coating may become susceptible to damage from frequent contact with chlorine.
What is Gold E-Coating?
Gold e-coating is a process where a thin layer of gold is applied to the surface of an object through electrophoresis. In this process, the jewelry piece is submerged in a solution with gold particles, and an electric current is used to transfer these particles onto its surface, creating a thin and even coating. Like PVD Gold Plating, E-Coating also offers strength and durability to the jewelry piece.
Can gold plating wear away?
Yes, all gold plating is actually susceptible to wearing away and revealing the inner metal. Even the most durable gold plating technique can fade if the piece is not taken care of properly. That's why we recommend keeping your jewelry dry and stored back in the packaging when not in use.
I'm not sure of my ring size...How can I measure at home?
Not a problem! Here's how to measure your ring size at home.
How can I take care of my jewelry to make sure it lasts a long time?
Make sure to treat your jewelry right! Though these pieces are made to withstand everyday conditions, that doesn't mean you should put them through hell. Avoid exposing your jewelry to harsh chemicals, such as chlorine, without rinsing them out as they can damage the plating. For more information, make sure to check out our jewelry care chart!
